Doctor Who: Every Thirteenth Doctor Episode Ranked From Worst To Best
1. The Haunting Of Villa Diodati
Here we are at last, the greatest episode of the last five years. And we don’t think we’re alone in this opinion.
The Haunting of Villa Diodati sees the Doctor visit Mary Shelley at Lord Byron’s villa, the night she would conceive the idea of Frankenstein’s Monster. The episode takes its time ramping up the tension and atmosphere, while devoting ample time to develop its fun supporting cast, before a rapid pace shift smashes into the story in the form of Ashad, the Lone Cyberman.
Ashad is the best thing about the Cybermen in a very long time, giving new depth to the villains and making them a genuinely frightening and imposing foe for once. This story does for the Cybermen what 2005's Dalek did for the Daleks.
One final big plus for the episode is that it gives us Jodie’s darkest, most angry moment as the Doctor, as she finally drops the "flat team structure" lie, and plays into the bitter, lonely god trope, something that this era has sorely missed.
Had the rest of Thirteen's time been on par with this episode, we would've been in for a treat.
