10 Doctor Who Questions Not Even Fans Know The Answer To

6. Was Russell T Davies Serious About The Doctorverse?

Not content with having the Fourteenth Doctor split in two, Russell T Davies threw a whole other hand grenade on the in-vision commentary for The Giggle, suggesting that Doctor's first bi-generation rippled backwards to all his other incarnations too.

The idea is that all of the Doctor's previous regenerations have also been bi-generations, meaning all the previous Doctors kept going past their point of "death" and are still out there somewhere. Or in his own words:

"I think all of the Doctors came back to life with their individual TARDISes, the gift of the Toymaker, and they're all out there travelling round in what I'm calling a Doctorverse."

But did this actually happen?

Well, it did come from the horse's mouth. But it also came from a piece of behind the scenes media rather than the show itself.

At the time it looked like Russell was just soft-launching the idea with the view to canonising it properly at a later date – thus allowing old Doctor actors to reappear without having to explain why they look older (and retroactively explaining stuff like The Two Doctors or Tales of the TARDIS).

But like a lot of the teases and setup in RTD2, nothing ever came of it onscreen, and with the collapse of the Disney era, Russell's departure, and a fresh start incoming, it's likely nothing ever will. So ultimately it is just Russell's own headcanon.

Also, this is the man who lied about giving us a 2026 Christmas special. So take everything he says with a pinch of salt.
