In The Forest Of The Night was one of the weaker episodes of series eight though it did have its redeeming qualities. The character of Maebh was lovingly crafted, endearing and well played by Abigail Eames. The rest of the kids with perhaps the exception of Ruby were thin stereotypes. The relationship between Danny and Clara stalled with little impact in the reveal of Claras lies. The CGI, especially Nelsons Column, was a bit dodgy but not so much it detracted from the plot. Peter Capaldi continues his good work and shares a lovely dynamic with the child actors. He is one of those rare adults who know how to speak to a child without condescending to them. Samuel Andersons Danny Pink appeared quite detached throughout the episode; his reaction to Claras lying curiously muffled. Jenna Coleman was given a thankless role in the story. Lets hope Claras journey wont continue to be undermined by troubling implications of sexism.
