2. The Doctor Has A Constant Companion
The Doctors of the new series, at least before this one, were defined by their actions in the Time War. They feared what they believed they had become and it hindered them to a certain extent. Brooding on the past is a trap because it blinds us to the possibilities of the future. Its hard to grow when youre afraid to reach out. What the Doctor was failing to understand is that fear is a constant companion. No matter how much we pretend it doesnt exist it never goes away. The secret to bravery is not denying fear but accepting it. Claras role in this episode is to teach the Doctor to accept his demons while not running away from her own. She and Danny are constantly failing with each other and yet every time they meet they accept that and move on. There are several false starts but they persevere until they ultimately achieve what they both want.
