Doctor Who: Village Of The Angels Review - 8 Ups & 4 Downs
4. UP - Bel And Azure’s Plot
We jumped back to Bel again this week, picking up her hunt for Vinder on the ruins of the tourist planet, Pazano. This plot was given just enough time so as to not detract from the main plot, leaving us with the least cluttered narrative we’ve seen so far in the series - it was refreshing to have to think a little less this week.
Bel was just as fun as she was last week, and her and Vinder continue to add some grounding moments into this crazy timey-wimey space opera. We also enjoyed her chirpy new friend Namaca, played by Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison.
This episode also finally gave Azure a chance to do something on her own, instead of just being Swarm’s hype woman, going some distance to establish her as a threat in her own right. Azure is attempting to gather more prisoners inside passenger, possibly with the aim to repeat her and Swarm’s plan from long ago, and she’s finding these prisoners in the form of refugees, trapped on a dying planet by the Flux. The whole concept reminded us a little of Utopia, with the Master tricking the last of humanity by promising them salvation, only to turn them into the Toclafane.
All in all, this was a brief but enjoyable break from the tension of the main plot. It’s an up from us.
