4. The Seven Stages (S2E8)
With the exception of Klaus, Number 5 is possibly the best character the Umbrella Academy can boast, and this episode is a perfect example of why. The oldest sibling's adventures with Luther and his future/past self is some of the most compelling storytelling we've ever seen from the show.
After failing to meet the unexpected deadline from the Handler's briefcase, 5 comes up with a desperation move that would see him meet up with his old self. This had the potential to be extremely confusing, but the show smartly added Luther into the mix, giving 5 a medium through which to explain everything to us.
The other heavy hitter of this outing is Vanya. The 'ordinary' member of the Academy is tortured and made to relive her awful childhood, before losing control of her powers. Not only is she revealed to be the reason behind the apocalypse, again, her memory comes flooding back as her link to Harlan is confirmed. A big episode in the season's narrative, highlighted by the adventures of the two heaviest Academy hitters.
