House Of Cards: 10 Questions That Must Be Answered In Season 3
7. Does Remy Denton Have Any Allies Left?
When Remy Denton was introduced in Season 1, Frank turned to the audience and described him thusly: "He chose money over power. In this town, a mistake nearly everyone makes. Money is the McMansion in Sarasota that starts falling apart after 10 years. Power is the old stone building that stands for centuries. I cannot respect someone who doesn't see the difference". Whilst Remy has been both the thorn in Frank's side and the ointment he's rubbed on it, depending on which way his paymasters have deemed the wind to be blowing, the final episodes of Season 2 saw the first signs of Remy opting for power over his paycheque. After leaving his prestigious position at SanCorp to help Raymond Tusk bring down Frank, he attempted to change sides when Jackie Sharp refused to be first coerced, and then blackmailed, into helping him. This eventually comes to Tusk's attention, leaving Remy caught between the two warring parties. As Season 2 drew to a close, Remy's offer to testify to the committee (although whether he actually showed up is another matter) puts an end to his relationship with Tusk, and leaves him with only the faint promise of a job on the administration from Jackie to fall back on. Whether Jackie's got either the power or the inclination to follow through on this is one thing, whether the new President would welcome back the man who exposed his wife's affair and tried to implicate him in the funding scandal is quite another.
