The on-screen version of the Ambassador Class Enterprise-C was a redesign of Andrew Probert's concept, completed by Rick Sternbach and Michael Okuda. The final look of the ship that we saw was dictated largely because of the cost of making a model on a short notice.

Taking Probert's original ideas, Sternbach and Okuda made the decision to change the engineering hull and saucer section into circular units, rather than eliptical units, as these were far cheaper the build.

The final design would appear in several episodes of The Next Generation and in Deep Space Nine, ensuring the longevity of the reimagined Ambassador Class ship.
