Since Jensen Ackles' character has the ability to depower anyone exposed to V, it seemed like he was the only person capable of defeating Homelander. Although Vought's prized Supe survived his first encounter with Soldier Boy, it looked like his days were numbered.

The source of all of Homelander's insecurities is his desire to be loved and admired by a parental figure. Despite the fact he encouraged Madelyn Sitwell into a pseudo-matriarchal role to satisfy this impulse, it wasn't enough.
