The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Rock Star Moments

2. Aerosmith (S3 E10 “Flaming Moe’s”)

As the first band to guest star on The Simpsons, Aerosmith’s appearance is truly iconic. When Homer escapes the family home during Lisa’s sleepover, he seeks refuge at Moe’s Tavern, only to find he has run out of beer.

In need of a drink, Homer instructs Moe to mix a "Flaming Homer" cocktail of leftover booze and cough syrup, before setting it alight. Moe steals the drink recipe, renaming it a "Flaming Moe", and reaps the rewards as his business becomes increasingly popular.

With the promise of free pickled eggs, Aerosmith, who just came to hang out at the now trendy tavern, agree to perform, bringing Moe onstage for an impromptu duet as they play “Walk This Way”. As Homer becomes enraged by Moe's undeserved success, Aerosmith become regular performers at the bar.

In the final scene, as Aerosmith perform "Young Lust" (initially without drummer Joey Kramer, who Mrs Krabappel attempts to seduce), a deranged Homer reveals the drink's "secret ingredient" of cough syrup, before falling from the tavern's rafters and landing atop the bewildered band.

While Aerosmith may have fallen flat under Homer's rear, their appearance on the show sure didn't!
