6. Ned Flanders
Sometimes you can hate a person without knowing why, and that's how Ned Flanders feels. Audiences will be on either side of the coin with him, as some find his overly upbeat personality to be too much, but others are charmed by his optimism. Whichever side you fall on, it's impossible to say that he doesn't have a great slot in the show.
As the neighbour to the Simpsons, Flanders has an instant connection to the central family. This has given him plenty of great chances to sneak into the mainline narratives and even get his own episodes. So, it's easy to say that he's one of the most significant non-Simpson characters.
Besides his frien'diddly attitude, Ned has also proven to be a profoundly emotional and flawed character. His burst of outrage in "Hurricane Neddy" and the tragic death of his wife in "Alone Again, Natura-Diddly" are just a few examples of when fans have been able to see Ned in a more emotionally vulnerable position.
