The Simpsons: Ranking Every Alternate Future Episode From Worst To Best
3. Future-Drama
Whereas Barthood and Mr. Lisa's Opus focused on the past and possible future of Bart and Lisa's lives, respectively, Future-Drama was a rather exceptional look at the both of the elder Simpsons children in their late teenage years.
While other future-themed Simpsons episodes often drop you right in the middle of Bart and Lisa's adulthood, Future-Drama is an incredibly charming coming-of-age tale that shows them at a crossroads in life, preparing to leave high school and join the adult world.
Admittedly, nothing utterly Earth-shattering happens in this episode. But it is chock-full of solid jokes and charming character moments to keep you invested throughout its duration.
Whether it's Professor Frink providing the episode's framing device, Lisa strangling Bart in the present as she watches her future self do the same, the subplot of Homer and Marge being seperated after the former blew their savings on an underwater house, or Milhouse just being Milhouse, there's a lot of great material on display.
Finally, the main conflict of Bart and Lisa's uncertain future is handled great, uses their iconic dynamic to its fullest, and results in a rather touching finale.
