4. There Are Other Potential Leaders

Deanna is the obvious candidate from the Alexandria group to lead in Rick's absence, while Maggie has taken up an informal diplomatic position within the walls. She has a quieter season at times, though she's surely got a huge part to play in the rest of the story and could lead the group into a relatively peaceful period. The sheriff's lessons have been passed on, with the likes of Carol dishing out justice and making tougher decisions than anybody in the show, Rick included. While Rick is the all-action kingpin, he's no longer the only man capable of steering the ship, meaning that if he did go, there'd be a rebuilding process for the group, rather than complete chaos.
