10 Former WWE Stars Who Should Return In 2018

4. Christian

CM Punk World Champion
WWE

Although he has made several appearances on WWE television since quietly stepping away from in-ring competition in 2014, 'Captain Charisma' was released from his talent contract in May 2016, weeks after the last episode of The Edge & Christian Show That Totally Reeks Of Awesomeness aired on the Network.

Now 44 years old, Christian has a long history of concussions, and his wrestling days are well behind him. That doesn't mean WWE can't use his electric personality, though. He'd be excellent in a managerial role supporting somebody like Tye Dillinger, who, while talented and relatively charismatic himself, still hasn't developed an onscreen personality beyond the one-note '10' gimmick.

WWE's odd reluctance to use talented managers and valets is a clear barrier here, but Christian is an elite talker, and his existing popularity should transfer over to whoever he ended up accompanying to the ring. Failing that, they could even use him as an affable authority figure when Daniel Bryan's contract inevitably expires this summer. There's no shortage of exciting opportunities, and though he'd command big money, Christian's presence would be worth the expense.
