7 Ups And 8 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (Sept 5)

2. Only One Person Is Laughing

You’ve got to hope Vince McMahon has cracked a rib laughing at the New Day/Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson segments, because for the rest of the WWE Universe, it’s not funny, it’s not entertaining and it’s damaging five wrestlers’ standing in fans’ eyes.

New Day has held the Tag Team Championships for more than a year. Gallows & Anderson were dominant tag champs over in Japan. That alone should be enough to sell this feud. But instead, we endured Gallows & Anderson pretending they were doctors. Now, we’re getting segments with the duo pretending they’re retirement specialists. You see, they beat up the Dudley Boyz on their way out of WWE, and they want to retire New Day as tag champs. Get it?

Monday’s segment, with Gallows & Anderson bringing out the “Old Day” to show a glimpse into the champs’ future, was a disaster from top to bottom and left the crowd stone silent until New Day arrived to liven things up (no pun intended). What should be an easy and compelling story to tell has become completely fast-forward worthy.

But man, Vince is laughing so hard backstage. That’s got to be worth something, right?
