Ranking WWE's Empty Arena Pay Per Views From Worst To Best
3. Hell In A Cell 2020
This is a two match show (maybe two and a half), but what a pair of matches. Getting the other stuff out of the way quickly: Elias and Jeff Hardy had a nothingy match, as did Lashley and Slapjack (remember Slapjack?), and the Otis MITB experiment was brought to a limp end with The Miz winning the briefcase after a heel turn from Tucker (remember Tucker?).
Now, the good stuff. Jey Uso and Roman Reigns resumed hostilities in an exceptional I Quit cell match, with storytelling, hard hitting action, and rich melodrama combining to coronate heel Roman as the top dog and start a new chapter for his malicious faction.
Even better was Sasha and Bayley’s long awaited showdown. The two had kept WWE ticking all year long with their slowburn angle and unsurpassed mic ability, and this much anticipated clash more than delivered. There were great weapons spots, fantastic character moments, and a well deserved win for Sasha, who’d finally embark on the long run with the belt she deserves.
Orton and McIntyre’s cell match is also worth watching, but it’s not a patch on the other two, right up there with the finest WWE matches in 2020. Patient, character based storytelling pays off - who’da thunk it?
