9. Over The Edge - 1999

Undertaker This Tuesday in Texas
WWE

Although the Over the Edge moniker had been used for an In Your House event the year prior, 1999 was the one and only time that it was promoted as a standlone pay-per-view.

It is remembered almost exclusively for the tragic passing of Owen Hart, who was pronounced dead by Jim Ross on commentary during the live show after an elaborate entrance from the arena rafters went fatally wrong. Hart was aged just 34.

Vince McMahon made the difficult and controversial decision to continue the show, but even main events of the calibre of The Rock versus Triple H and The Undertaker against Stone Cold could not clear the dark cloud hanging over the fans and the performers.

The Over the Edge name has been retired by McMahon and mentions of Hart’s death have been deleted from the edited version of the pay-per-view available on the WWE Network.
