It's likely to be the most talked-about DC event in years, but Doomsday Clock came within an inch of being cancelled.

The end was nigh for Geoff Johns's plans following discussions during a visit to the set of the Wonder Woman movie.

It sounds like the writer became convinced Doomsday Clock was a non-stater and was ready to call time on the project, before certain world events changed his mind.

"On the set of Wonder Woman, we talked a lot about it. At the end of the day, we thought, ‘You know what? We’re not going to do it.“And then the election happened. And then other things in the world happened, and it changed. Suddenly, the whole story just jumped into my head, and I called Gary [Frank] and said, ‘I just have to pitch this to you, because I have this story, and the story is bigger than I thought it was, it’s different than I thought it was, it’s more risky than I thought it was.'”

Almost seemingly, Doomsday Clock came as close to destruction as the world did during the events of the original Watchmen, but following Johns's change of heart, the first issue will hit stores on 22 November.
