10 Benefits To Learning Brazilian Jiujitsu
4. There's Plenty Of Competition
When I say competition I don't mean rival, Cobra Kai-style gym takeovers. I do mean, however, local and international competitions should you feel like testing your skills out in.
Now, these are not compulsory. I train with people that don't like the idea of competing, and they get no judgement for it. They just want to train.
But for those that want to put their knowledge to the test against other practitioners from different clubs, there's always something about.
Standard timed/point ruleset competitions, submission-only, gi/nogi events... there's bound to be something nearby for everyone.
Or if you want to branch out, there's international events too. Some are for high level players, whilst others are all-level.
As jiujitsu communities continue to grow, so do the events available. It's always worth checking out the reviews and reputations of the organisers beforehand, mind.
But for the most part, events like these are fun and a great way to get some perspective and a chance to battle against new people.
You don't have to, but taking medals and podiums at a competition is, personally, a brilliant feeling.
