32-year-old Igor Akinfeev has been Russia's number one for many years now, having first made his debut for the national side back in 2004. A rare example of a one-club player, Akinfeev has spent his entire domestic career with CSKA Moscow, helping the club to six Russian Premier League titles and various other trophies.

Compared in the past to legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin, Akinfeev has been one of Europe's most consistent keepers and a very solid performer for Russia over the years, but did have some bad experiences at the last World Cup. He made a mistake in Russia's first group game against South Korea and was the victim of laser pointers in a later game against Algeria, which put him off and allowed another strike to slip past him.

Akinfeev remains Russia's strongest keeper and will want to put those past errors behind him on home soil when the World Cup gets underway. Well-known for his agility, aerial presence, and astonishingly accurate long kicks, Akinfeev will need to be on form if the host nation want to go far in this tournament.
