With the European Tour and World Golf Rankings not being introduced until he was past his peak, it is difficult to assess how good Bernard Hunt actually was during his career but he racked over 30 tournament victories during a distinguished spell in the sport.

He twice won the British Masters, with triumphs at the German Open and French Open also notable successes, and he topped the European Order of Merit three times between 1958 and 1965.

He did not fare too well in the Ryder Cup neither as a player or a captain, with 19 defeats being suffered in 38 matches during his time as a professional and the United States prevailing twice when he was the skipper but he enjoyed an impressive record at The Open Championship, despite never winning the trophy.

Hunt competed 25 times between 1952 and 1974 but his best years came between 1955 and 1965 where he finished in the top five on four occasions. He endured a poor tournament overall at the 1960 event but a final-round 66 saw him finish in a tie for third.

He never performed to his best at The Masters but his displays throughout his career earn him a place among the top players in this list.
