His ponytail, cigars and general demeanour sometimes overshadow the golfing talent that Miguel Angel Jimenez has at his disposal but with 21 victories on the European Tour spread across three different decades, he deservedly features on this list.

The Spaniard has never featured inside the world's top 10 and at the age of 52, he never will do but that should not take anything away from his achievements in the sport. He has won several of the biggest events on the European Tour including the BMW Championship, Volvo Masters and Dubai Desert Classic.

He has represented Spain in the World Cup on 14 occasions and won two Ryder Cups from four attempts with Europe but he only ever finished as runner-up in one major tournament - the 2000 US Open.

That event was famously won by 15 shots by Tiger Woods - the largest margin of victory in the history of major tournaments - but Jimenez was the best of the rest during those four days at Pebble Beach. He ended each of the rounds no lower than third place and a 70 on the Sunday was enough to share second with Ernie Els.

His remarkable longevity was shown with fourth place at the 2014 Masters - 32 years after turning professional - but unfortunately for Jimenez, he regained form too little too late.
