10 Best Players Of The 2018 World Cup
1. Luka Modric
The rightful winner of the Golden Ball, Croatia's Luka Modric was at his very best for this World Cup. Long regarded as one of, if not the finest all-round midfielders in the game, Modric took hold of this tournament and didn't let go, ably leading his country to their first ever World Cup final.
The 32-year-old got off to a great start in the group stages, scoring in Croatia's opening game with Nigeria and doubling his tally in the second match with Argentina, being handed the Man of the Match award in both games. The only real flaw in his tournament came when he missed a penalty in the round of 16, but he dusted himself off to score in the shootout and then made a goal for Domagoj Vida in the quarter finals.
Time and again, it was he who pulled the strings, covering every blade of grass and leading by example, creating countless chances and always trying to make things happen for his side. Croatia came up a little short against France, but Modric was rightfully awarded the best individual prize of the tournament for his masterful displays in every single one of his country's games.
