Alan Shearer’s most famous celebration isn’t exactly a thrilling one, but when you’re scoring goals at the rate of the former Newcastle marksman, an elaborate routine for every strike is going to become exhausting.

It’s a sight fans of Newcastle United, Blackburn Rovers, and - to a lesser extent - Southampton could never become tired of. The relentless, ruthless Shearer scoring all types of goals during his glittering playing career, and celebrating the majority of them with little more than a raised arm.

It’s a celebration befitting of the player and the man, efficient and no nonsense. The fortunes of all three of his clubs have been variable since, but the image of Shearer with his arm aloft after finding the back of the net remains a celebrated one, particularly at his hometown club, which unfurled a banner of the striker performing his signature celebration to mark 10 years of service.

St James’ park even boasts a statue of Shearer celebrating, although the statue shows the forward with an extended index finger. Shearer noted that he actually put this spin on his final NUFC goal. It was in a thumping away win over Sunderland - definitely one to cherish.
