10 Best Premier League Matches Of The 1990s

9. Swindon Town 2 - 2 Manchester United - 1993/1994

There was some seriously hard characters on Swindon's County Ground pitch so it's no wonder that it became a volatile game of end to end. Not a game for those who will shirk a tackle, the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Ince, John Moncur and Mark Hughes aren't going to muck about and that was part of the beauty of this one; 22 blokes going at each other and getting on with it. Keane gave United the lead before Luc Nijholt equalised with a deflected drive from outside the box. Even the crowd couldn't resist getting involved with the action in the first half, Mark 'Sparky' Hughes getting caught up in a scuffle with a fan even before Eric Cantona made it popular. Not that the Frenchman would be out of the action for long here. Shortly after Paul Ince restored United's lead in the 62nd minute, Cantona got his legs entangled with Moncur's and decided to stamp on his chest. Swindon, desperate for any point in their battle against relegation, chucked everything at United. It paid off as Swindon cult legend Jan Age Fjortoft bagged a late equaliser. A real old school game on a fairly ropey pitch, it's not the sort of game the Premier League has too often these days.
