10 Best Spanish Players In Premier League History
2. Cesc Fabregas
With 350 league appearances for Arsenal and Chelsea, Cesc Fabregas is the most experienced Spanish player in Premier League history and very nearly the most successful.
The classy midfielder made his debut for the Gunners aged just 16, and within a few seasons was a first-team regular. A superb playmaker, there was no-one better for chances created than Fabregas. His passing range, set-piece ability and footballing mind made him one of the most coveted players around.
Despite being Arsenal’s captain, the lack of silverware and the lure of Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona, saw him leave London, only to return three years later via Chelsea.
While many saw this as a betrayal, Fabregas was undeterred and thrived in blue, picking up multiple trophies as the hub of Chelsea’s creativity. By the time he left he had racked up 111 Premier League assists, placing him second on the all-time list, behind only the legendary Ryan Giggs.
He deserved far more of a fanfare when he departed Chelsea for Monaco in January 2019. But given his two league titles, two FA Cups and one League Cup, not to mention two European Championships and the World Cup (where he set up Andres Iniesta’s winner), I’m sure he’s not that fussed.
Oh, and he also threw a pizza at Sir Alex Ferguson. Just a fun thing to know.
