10 Best World Football Transfers Of January 2020 Window
8. Steven Bergwijn - PSV To Tottenham
Spurs may have lost out on Piatek, but are still looking more active in the transfer market under Jose Mourinho than they ever were in the Mauricio Pochettino era.
Although he had previously been linked with Liverpool and Man United, Dutch winger Bergwijn's £27 million move to Spurs in the final week of the window came a little out of the blue. Nevertheless, Mourinho appears to have landed a player of real quality.
A skilled winger, capable of running at defenders and cutting in from the left on his favoured right foot, Bergwijn has shades of Raheem Sterling in his ability to score and create in equal measure (14 goals and 12 assists for PSV Eindhoven last season).
That versatility will definitely appeal to Mourinho as Bergwijn's ability to play anywhere across the frontline gives him plenty of options when trying to solve the tricky dilemma of how to cover for Harry Kane's injury.
Bergwijn certainly arrived with a bang, a stunning chest-and-volley goal opening his account on his debut, helping his new team to an impressive 2-0 defeat of champions Man City. A few more like that and Bergwijn will easily ingratiate himself with the Tottenham faithful.
