Few Italian players have epitomised the up and down career a footballer can have quite like Antonio Cassano.

Cassno burst onto the scene with Roma back in 2001 after catching the eye in a previous spell with Bari, and was thought to be one of the saviours of Italian football and eventual replacement for legendary striker Alessandro Del Piero.

Real Madrid shelled out for Cassano's services back in 2006 and club president Roman Calderon expected much more than he eventually got out of the Italian.

Cassano never got going for Madrid and despite capturing a league title with the club, his form was patchy to say the least as he struggled with off-field issues and weight problems.

He eventually moved back to Italy with Sampdoria and rebuilt his reputation to an extent.

In terms of the impact he was meant to have at the Bernabeu though, it's safe to say that Cassano's time with the club is one best not remembered.
