10 Biggest Dodged Bullets In Chelsea Transfer History

4. Kaka

Kaka is another Brazilian with whom Chelsea were repeatedly linked up until a few years ago, with the player widely considered the best in the year during his peak at AC Milan. Luiz Felipe Scolari in particular was a big advocate for signing the 26-year old and are believed to have tabled a huge bid in 2008, which the Italian club turned down and the player's agent confirmed his client was quite happy where he was. Funnily enough, it was Andriy Shevchenko's ultimately doomed departure to Chelsea which had allowed the Brazilian to really flourish in Milan, becoming the focal point of his team's attacks and the star to whom the ball gravitated at every possible opportunity. When former Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti also headed to the Bridge, a fresh attempt was made to sign the playmaker, although the player instead opted to go to Madrid for an astonishing ‚68.5 million. Kaka's time in Spain did not go well. No longer the star of the team, he struggled to impose himself as only one star amid the galacticos, succumbing to a number of injuries and frequently finding himself relegated to the bench for big games. He only managed to hit double figures in goals or assists once during his time in Spain, managing 14 assists in 2011/12 and though he had some good games and showed glimpses of the incredible talent which had convinced Florentino Perez to whip out his chequebook, he looked half the player he did at Milan and a long way from justifying his astronomical transfer fee. An underwhelming move back to Milan followed, before he signed for newly formed MLS club Orlando City this summer. Given Chelsea have never been a one man team, it's unlikely a move to London would've gone any better for him.
