5. Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur
The North London derby is just one of many football rivalries that is present in the nations capital but I will highlight the rivalry between Arsenal and Tottenham as I feel it is worthy of a place in the top five. The first professional meeting between the two was back in the 1910/11 season and both clubs have been present in the Premier League since its inception. The North of London stops to a halt whenever these two clubs meet as their is a genuine dislike between the two sets of fans. Both Spurs and Arsenal fans are highly cosmopolitan and multi-ethnic, which is a reflection on the cultural diversity of London and footballing superiority is paramount in the area. For the vast majority of the Premier League era Arsenal have dominated their closest rivals. In November 2010, Tottenham registered their first win on Arsenal soil in 17 years as they came from 2-0 down at half-time to win 3-2. The reaction from all those Spurs fans in the travelling support section after the final whistle was blown showed just what the victory meant in the area. Until their next meeting ... Tottenham were superior. The rivalry has further amplified in the past few seasons as these are two clubs have both been fighting for qualification to the Champions League. Arsenal edged out Tottenham at the end of last season resigning the Spurs to the Europa League for another season.
