Diego Maradona - Barcelona To Napoli (£6.9 million) Regarded by many as the greatest player of all time, Diego Armando Maradona completely changed the fortunes of Napoli, and will forever remain a cult hero in Naples. Following an injury plagued spell at Barcelona, Maradona was purchased by Napoli for a world record transfer fee - the second of his career-, and entered his prime. Maradona, almost single-handedly transformed an unsuccessful team from the south of Italy into a title-winning side that continuously posed a threat to its more decorated rivals in the North. Pre and post Maradona, Napoli have failed to emulate the successes of his era. Their only two Serie A titles coming in the '86/'87 and '89/'90 campaigns, as well as their solitary Uefa Cup success in 1989. However, in typical Maradona fashion, his time in Naples was not without its controversy.
