10 Biggest Premier League Surprise Packages So Far

3. Rickie Lambert, Southampton (Games Played 31, Goals 14, Assists 4)

ricky lambert His inclusion on this list does not refer to my surprise in his ability to score goals (he has done this at every level in England) but refers to the ease in which he has transferred these skills into the Premier League. He has quite literally scored every type of goal this year. He scores with his head, with his left foot and with his right foot. He scores against fellow relegation battlers (QPR, Wigan) but also against the top teams (Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea). Even though he is shooting the average age of the young Southampton team up considerably (he is 32 next season) he somehow manages to vitalise the rest of the team in every game he plays. His set pieces have provided some beautiful moments this year. Whether it be the sweetly struck penalties in which he has scored 31 from 31, or his knack of finding the net from free kicks (please see the glorious free kick against Chelsea) he really is a threat from anywhere ont he pitch. Being the highest scoring Englishman in the league, it begs the question why on Earth he isn't in the England squad? (But that would need a whole new article altogether).
