10 Biggest Underachievers In Fantasy Premier League 2019/20
5. Joelinton - Newcastle United
Joelinton is another one of those classic big money summer signings who struggled to make an instant impact in the Premier League.
With Newcastle owner Mike Ashley notoriously reluctant to splash the cash, the Toon Army faithful were optimistic when the club forked out a club record £40m to sign the promising Brazilian forward from Hoffenheim in July 2019, but sadly Joelinton’s first season on Tyneside wasn’t one to remember.
With a limited number of starting strikers in FPL as Premier League teams increasingly favoured playing formations with one striker, at £6m Joelinton looked a viable option as Fantasy managers set up their teams at the start of the season.
But Joelinton scored just one goal before the season was postponed in March and that goal was away to Tottenham, so many of the Fantasy managers who had taken a punt on the Brazilian benched him for the tricky tie away from home.
The record signing finished the season with just two goals, two assists and 78 FPL points.
Joelinton is only 23, so there is still plenty of time for him to turn it around, but he won’t be in many Fantasy managers’ thoughts as they select their troops for the start of the 2020/21 season in a few weeks’ time.
