10 Biggest Unsung Heroes In Rangers History

1. John Brown

For many older fans of the club, John Brown was exactly the kind of player that typified what being part of Glasgow Rangers is all about. Looking like he was carved from rock, Brown had a hardened quality to him that would lend itself well to the Rangers cause. Signed the same year as Ian Ferguson, 1988, both had similar traits, and both would feature in the same successes over the years. Even after he hung up the boots full-time in 1997, John Brown became a youth coach at Ibrox, and remained part of the set-up until 2006. Much like many defenders, goals weren't why he was in the team, but he did manage 14 strikes for Rangers. That included a memorable one off the post against Celtic. During the administration and eventual liquidation crisis surrounding the business side of Glasgow Rangers in 2012, Brown was outspoken, feeling more fan control was needed at the club. Speaking recently about the new regime, he says he's proud to see Rangers get back on their feet after years of turmoil. John Brown is the kind of the man who will always be welcomed back by fans at Ibrox, because even when he hasn't been heralded, he has always given his best for the club.
