Captain Colo - or at least that's what the Argentine was under both Alan Pardew and John Carver, but are the times a changing? Steve McClaren has refused to say whether or not Coloccini will continue as skipper, raising the distinct possibility that the Magpies head coach has a new player in mind to fill the role. In fact, if the weekend's transfer rumours are to be believed, then Alan Pardew is looking to take Coloccini to London with Crystal Palace anyway - so he might not even be on Tyneside to wear the captain's armband. Ever since the former AC Milan, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Boca Juniors defender first pined for a move back to San Lorenzo almost two-and-a-half years ago in January 2013, the bond between Coloccini and the Toon faithful was broken practically beyond repair. The centre-back has not been playing well enough in recent months, and his leadership skills have been abysmal. When Newcastle were sinking almost without trace last season, Coloccini got himself sent off and allowed his teammates to do the same. On the evidence of last season, McClaren could well decide it's time for a change of captaincy, as well as style of play.
