10 Controversies & Scandals That Rocked Man Utd

6. The Evra/Suarez Racism Scandal

In October 2011, Manchester United were dragged into a racism scandal when Liverpool striker Luis Suarez racially abused defender Patrice Evra. Suarez was caught on camera saying something into Evra's ear and was later charged by the FA for making racist comments. The incident, and the scenes that followed, were highly regrettable. The FA hit Suarez with an eight-match ban after finding him guilty of the abuse, while Liverpool continued to support their player and wore tee-shirts during a training session backing the shamed striker - an action that received wide-spread condemnation from the footballing world. Though United were the innocent party during this controversy, it was still one of the biggest scandals to rock the club, the like of which they will not wish to be associated with ever again.
