Another recurring theme on list will be clubs from the Basque Country. The fact that the small club of Eibar even made it to La Liga is ridiculous in itself, and the fact they didn’t immediately get relegated is downright outlandish. Eibar were a team that just sort of hung around in the lower divisions of Spanish football, never really doing anything of merit until they went on a run of gaining promotion over the past couple of years.
Everything about this club is endearing, the idea that their stadium holds around 5 000, about the same as King's Lynn Town FC’s ground, and the fact that they host Real and Barcelona is nothing but lovable. It's grass roots football taking on the California Redwoods.
There was also believed to have been a conspiracy theory to prevent Eibar from entering La Liga last year so as to not tarnish the glamorous footballing image the league was trying to market to wealthy businessmen across Asia.
Eibar wasn't so much viewed as the fly in ointment as it was the dead fox in the air conditioning vent. One of the few clubs in Europe to have basically no debt, the lowest wage bill out of any team in the top few flights and a strong Basque identity, Eibar seem like they have the stones to stick around in the top division for at least a few more years to come.
