2. Failure To Qualify For Europe
Owen Humphreys/PA Wire/Press Association ImagesDavid Moyes's 10 month spell at Manchester United had devastating consequences - on and off the pitch. On the pitch, United stuttered to seventh place in the Premier League, missing out on Champions League football for the first time since 1995 and failing to qualify for Europe altogether for the first time in 14 years. Off the pitch, this naturally had financial repercussions. The Red Devil's executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward, confirmed recently that the club's failure to qualify for Europe next season
would set it back by £30 million due to absence of television deals, sponsorship and prize money. United's failure to qualify for Europe wasn't just costly from a fiscal perspective - their omission from the Champions League may yet prove a stumbling block in the club's attempts to persuade world class players to sign for them this summer, with rivals who are in Europe able to offer stars a more convincing reason to join them instead.
