Before Harry Kane in 2016, the last English player to win the Premier League Golden Boot was Kevin Phillips, at the turn of the millennium.

He struck 30 times in the 1999/20 season, but that came while plying his trade for a newly promoted Sunderland side, which makes his feat just more special.

Courtesy to his menacing exploits, the Black Cats accomplished an impressive seventh-place finish, but another player to have had an influence in the proceedings was Nial Quinn, who chipped in with 14 goals of his own.

While his stats may not be as glittering, he was an important component of the Sunderland set-up nonetheless. Fowler had even went on to disclose how Quinn's presence helped him unlock an extra level or two in his game, as he "created an awful lot of opportunities" for him.
