10 Most Dramatic Moments In Premier League History

2. "Collymore Closing In"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9miGP5BC7bE Liverpool and Newcastle were both hugely entertaining teams to watch during the mid 90s, and their epic clash in April 1996 is widely regarded as the greatest game in the history of the Premier League. Kevin Keegan's side were tussling with United for the title - Liverpool also had a very slim chance of glory- and they knew defeat would hand over the initiative to Ferguson's side. Robbie Fowler and Les Ferdinand exchanged early goals, and when David Ginola put the visitors in front it looked as though they were on their way to a massive victory, They failed to hold their lead after the break though- Keegan was often criticised for being too hung-ho with his tactics- as Fowler made it 2-2 after 55 minutes. They was still plenty of drama to come, however. Faustino Asprilla made it 3-2 to Newcastle almost immediately, but midway through the second-half Stan Collymore got on the end of Jason McAteer's cross to bring the scores level once again. The stage was set for an unforgettable finish, and it was Collymore who had the final say on an amazing evening. Reds legends Ian Rush and John Barnes exchanged passes, before the Englishman found Collymore in space on the left hand-side of the penalty area. The striker fired emphatically into the back of the Kop net, sending Anfield wild and leaving Keegan slumped over the advertising hoardings. United went on to win the title, as Newcastle let slip a healthy 12-point lead at the top.
