7. John Stones
David Davies/PA Archive/Press Association ImagesBefore beginning his ill-fated tenure as Manchester United manager, David Moyes offered up a leaving present to Everton. The final signing he made was that of John Stones. He took the strapping young defender from Barnsley and brought him to a great club which can offer him a chance at genuine success. Stones has continued to improve since then, showing no signs of slowing down in the Premier League. He featured at right back for The Tykes and showed then that he was blessed with excellent technical ability. It's no surprise then that current Everton coach Roberto Martinez has used him as a ball playing centre half. In that role, he serves to link the back to the midfield and into attack. Stones has great potential to become a top defender, and has already been doing really well. Any suggestion that he might have struggled to make the step up was quashed by his displays last season. He was a standout performer for Everton, adapting positively to the more fast paced, physical style of the top flight. The defensive area is one of great weakness for England. Surely he must be given a chance if he continues to perform at the same level for The Toffees this season.
