10 Excruciatingly Awkward UFC Post Fight Interviews
1. Forrest Griffin Ruins Tito Ortiz's Retirement
In a strange twist of fate, what was supposed to be Tito Ortiz's retirement fight ended up being Forrest Griffin's final pro fight, and Griffin won! If only that was the worst thing that happened after their UFC 148 bout...
After winning a split decision over Griffin in 2006's Fight of the Year, Ortiz dropped a split decision in the rematch. The Huntington Beach Bad Boy decided the trilogy fight would be his last. Griffin would be forced to retire due to nagging injuries after winning the rubber match, which was a great shame. Ortiz came out of retirement and had one last run in Bellator, submitting Chael Sonnen before calling it quits again. So both retired on a win, so life wasn't too bad.
What was bad though was the interview afterwards. Griffin cut off Joe Rogan on his way in, and terrible television would ensue. Griffin would play the part of interviewer and it was so bad Rogan's pay was probably doubled after this. Griffin asked about Ortiz's performance and asked if being inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame may have contributed to him getting tired in the third.
Forrest Griffin's last interview in the octagon was roundly booed when he eventually handed the mic back to Joe. Likely partly motivated the the judges decision, but mostly because of the dreadful interview he had just conducted. Dana White was apoplectic after the fight, chewing out Griffin in the press conference for ruining Ortiz's last moment in the octagon.
