10 Excruciatingly Awkward UFC Post Fight Interviews
5. Cat Zingano Wants To Do It Again
To give this one its proper context, this wasn't cringeworthy because everyone was embarrassed by a terrible interview. Though it wasn't a good interview, the build to Ronda Rousey vs. Cat Zingano had a backdrop of tragedy.
Just a year prior, Zingano's husband had sadly committed suicide. Zingano would come back to the cage just eight months later, and stopped Amanda Nunes to set up her title shot against Rousey. That Zingano had come back so quickly from something so devastating was a remarkable story in itself. Winning the title would have been like the plot of a great movie.
Alas, MMA is a cruel hearted soul, and Zingano charged out of her corner, and was quickly the latest victim of Ronda Rousey's armbar extravaganza. At just 14 seconds, it was the fastest title fight in UFC history, till Aldo vs. McGregor a few months later.
Zingano's post fight interview was one of those moments where you wished you could reach into your television and give her a hug. She said "I wanna do it again" a bunch of times during the interview, between swearing, breaking down the fight, and what came across to the crowd as sarcastic praise towards Rousey. While it wasn't sarcastic at all, Cat struggled through the interview looking crestfallen. While she'll almost certainly never face Rousey again, her 2014 victory over current champion Nunes may open the door for a title shot in the future.
