10 Most Expensive Man Utd Transfer Flops In History
9. Louis Saha (£12 million)
Like Alan Brazil, Louis Saha looked like a fantastic signing when he arrived at United in 2004. The Frenchman had been tearing it up for Fulham, plundering 53 goals in 117 appearances, including a 27-goal haul for the Cottagers in the 2000-01 campaign. Saha went on to spent three more seasons at Craven Cottage before joining United in January 2004 for £12 million. The forward made a reasonable start to his Red Devils career, scoring seven times from 12 outings during his first half-season at Old Trafford. However, things quickly went downhill with a series of knee injuries blighting his career. He only made 14, and then 19 league appearances in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and failed to establish himself as a regular starter upon his return from the sidelines. Eventually, Saha was sold to Everton in 2008, wisely on a two-year 'pay-as-you-play' deal, given his history for being a sick note.
