In a summer in which Spurs' transfer record was broken no less than three times, Lamela was the most expensive as the Lilywhites splashed out £30 million to acquire his services from Italian Serie A side Roma. Expectation was, perhaps a little unfairly, very high when he arrived. He was only young and taking time to adapt to a new culture is very normal - but he does need to start delivering soon to start paying back his huge fee. He had a terrible first season, performing poorly when he did play - looking seriously out of place - and spending much of it out injured with a bad back, leading some critics to say he was a waste of money. However, Lamelas attitude this season has been first class. He appears to be happier, more a part of the group and seemed to excited about the season during the clubs pre-season and his performances so far have been much more encouraging than last year. Still, he has a long way to go before he can truly be branded a success and he has yet to score a single goal in the Premier League.
