10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Liverpool History
8. Charlie Adam
Kenny Dalglish has done an unbelievable amount of good for Liverpool Football Club, whether it be as a player, manager or the admirable work he did following the Hillsborough disaster. It's fair to say he made plenty of errors during his second spell in the Anfield hotseat though. Signing Charlie Adam for £6.75m was of them. The Scotland international had enjoyed a superb season with Blackpool in 2010/11, but the step up to playing for the Reds seemed to daunt him from day one. He appeared unfit, his influence on games paled into insignificance compared to at Blackpool, and even his previously excellent set-piece deliveries- Sir Alex Ferguson once famously said they were worth £10m on their own- were nowhere to be seen. He made 35 appearances in 2011/12, in all competitions, scoring just twice, which for an attack-minded midfielder is abysmal. He also missed two penalties, one of which was in the 2012 League Cup Final shootout against Cardiff City. His laziness was often frustrating to watch, and the Anfield faithful never warmed to him. Adam joined Stoke City on the final day of the 2012 summer transfer window, having managed just one solitary full season at Liverpool. A complete flop.
