10 Football Records That Will Never Be Broken
6. Alan Shearer's Premier League Goals Tally
The prolific talisman will forever be remembered on Tyneside as one of their favourite sons.
The sheet metal worker's son had to start his career away from his beloved Newcastle, but by the time he arrived home as a world record buy, he was well on his way to being a legend in the making.
After starting his days at Southampton, it was his partnership with Chris Sutton at Blackburn that had him recognised him as a force to be reckoned with. In 1996, with a Premier League medal in his pocket, Shearer departed Ewood Park having netted 112 times for Rovers in the league.
He added another 138 strikes with his boyhood club, firmly writing the number nine's name into the record books with 260 goals in the Premier League.
So many have threatened to challenge, Andy Cole, Thierry Henry and Wayne Rooney to name a few, but no one is yet to come close. Harry Kane is the next to being tipped to knock Big Al from the pedestal, but as Shearer comically pointed out in tweet to the young Spurs striker, he's got a long way to go yet to catch him!
