10 Football Teams That Under-Performed In 2019/20
2. Torino
Top half finishes in six of the seven seasons leading up to the 2019/20 season, including twice in Europa League qualifying spots, made Torino look like a solid Serie A team.
Even their transfer business seemed to be heading in the right direction with Simone Zaza, Ola Aina and Simone Verdi arriving to add some good depth to the side.
So how is it that they managed to finish 16th, just 5 points outside of the relegation zone in the season just gone?
The obvious place to start is by looking at how many they conceded. The 68 goals they let in is the most they have conceded in a top-flight campaign since 1958/59.
The fact is that Torino are extremely fortunate that the five clubs that finished below them all shipped more goals, whilst only three scored fewer in the entire table.
With injuries offering no real issue to the squad during the campaign, the finger must be pointed at their lack of depth and their decision to sack Walter Mazzarri.
With just 14 players featuring in at least half of the available league games and just three wins following the Italian's departure, investment is needed.
