10 Football Teams That Under-Performed In 2019/20
1. Everton
Evertonians have a lot to look forward to with Carlo Ancelotti in charge. He has drawn Allan, and potentially James Rodriguez, to the Merseyside Blues, which is an incredible pull given the Toffees' recent history.
Before we turn to the squad, let's have a quick look at the finances.
£503,000,000 spent on players (with the third-highest net spend in the Premier League at £226,500,000) has earned Everton their lowest league finish since 2003/04. Over £100,000,000 splashed on the likes of Oumar Niasse, Yannick Bolasie, Morgan Schneiderlin, Cenk Tosun and Theo Walcott just to finish 12th and a 3rd round elimination from the FA Cup.
That is just abysmal.
A shaky defence will have to shoulder a lot of the blame for their season - Michael Keane has been very poor at times - but none must take as much responsibility as Jordan Pickford.
With the lowest save percentage in the league bar Kepa, the England international has made the second-most mistakes leading to goals (4) in a campaign that saw Everton concede 56 goals; just 3 goals from being their joint-worst record since 2000.
We will have to see how Everton fare under the guidance of Ancelotti. A new goalkeeper is a must.
