Barcelona have been trying to fill the Xavi-shaped hole in their midfield ever since the Spain legend departed two years ago, and Marco Verratti - the nimble Italian regista to whom they've been heavily linked in recent weeks - is probably as good a replacement as they can hope for.

Whilst the 24-year-old has been responding positively to the Catalan giants' advances, the snag so far has been reaching an agreement with his current employers.

PSG are in no mood to let one of their prized assets go without a fair transfer fee, and given that Barca parted with £65 million for Luis Suarez three years ago, it isn't hard to see them breaking the bank for Verratti - particularly after rivals Real Madrid helped themselves to yet another Champions League title last season.
